What is Theft Cover?

Theft cover is a very common cycle insurance policy benefit that affords you protection if your insured bike is stolen.

Is Theft Cover Always Included?

Theft cover is generally always included in your average cycle insurance policy. Here at cycleinsurance.co.uk all our insurance partners offer theft cover as standard, so regardless of who you choose through us, you’ll be covered if your bike is stolen so long as you follow the insurers security requirements.

Are There Any Exclusions?

There are some really important exclusions that will most likely be relevant for your cover when it comes to theft cover. So to be sure you are always covered refer to the insurers policy wording.

What Do I Do if My Bike is Stolen?

In the first instance, once you’re sure it’s been stolen, contact the police via 101 (unless the crime is still in process – then use 999) and let them know exactly what has happened.

Once you’ve been issued a crime reference number you should then contact your insurer who can help you through your options, whether that’s a temporary hire bike, or a reimbursement of the value or a replacement of your bike.

How to Avoid Having Your Bike Stolen

The are some really easy things you can do to help avoid being the victim of bike theft. The most obvious one is to make sure you use your bike lock. To find out which lock you should use for your bike you will need to refer to the insurers policy wording.

Another excellent way to help reduce the chance of bicycle theft is to register your bike on BikeRegister, the national cycle database. It’s very easy to do and once you mark your bike with the security tag then this will help ward off potential thieves.

Finally, when your bike is at home, always make sure it’s kept in a locked garage or shed and not just in your garden or outside.
